Please join your fellow GSA and GHS swimming alumni -- both guys and gals --
this August 6th at Lindley Pool,
as we gather to honor Coach Bob Sawyer in his 85th year!
ABOUT THE EVENT
We need YOUR assistance in spreading the word, as there are no complete GSA rosters from the Sawyer-Jamieson era (basically 1962-1980). Information about the reunion is below, and please click on the green button above to register (we need to know numbers!). Name tags will be provided at the reunion.
LOCATION: Lindley Pool - 2914 Springwood Dr. - In the event of rain we will use the Lindley Recreation Center across the parking lot from the pool.
FOOD: Stamey's Barbecue will provide lunch between 1:00 and 3:00. (Let us know in advance if you prefer a salad or a vegan meal, rather than their usual offerings.)
REFRESHMENTS: Refreshments will be available throughout the afternoon, but please note that no alcoholic beverages are allowed on city-owned property.
SEATING: We will have a few tents (donated by Hanes-Lineberry) and some Lindley bleachers, but more seating will be needed, so please bring some folding chairs if you are able to!
POOL ACCESS: We will have access to visit the pool and locker rooms, but told officials we don't expect to use the pool. If you do wish to swim, please let us know ahead, as extra lifeguards must be arranged. (And yes, there is a lot of irony in this...) The pool will be open to the public that day, so we'll be visiting around them.
PROGRAM: At 3:00, we will have a recognition program.
It will include:
- Remarks by Coach Sawyer
- Reading the names of the deceased (Please let us know of names you are aware of)
- Storytime! Please come prepared to share a Coach Sawyer/GSA/GHS story!
COST: $20 per person, payable in CASH at the event.
EVENING AFTER REUNION: After the afternoon event at Lindley Pool, we expect folks will want to continue gathering informally in the evening. Reservations to area restaurants are recommended. One option (including after-dinner) is Joymongers Brewing Co., at 576 N. Eugene Street, near the Grasshoppers Baseball Park. They always have a food truck on-site (from a rotation they bring in), but the emphasis is on brewed beers, in a space meant for friends to gather and have fun. (Owned by Jim Jones, GHS '74.)
